since i was enjoying the denali so much, we bought the lady of the house a huffy regatta at wal-mart for, i believe, $159. it's a cruiser, no lightweight at 38 pounds, on 26" tires, powder blue with a rear rack and pannier bags included. it's mostly steel, with the exception of stem, cranks and rims of all things, and has a comfy padded and sprung seat. despite the fact that it's too small for me, i've had it around the block, and the ride is ok, for a cruiser. this is just something for schlepping down to the park or into town for ice cream, and appears eminently up to the task. we've added a bell to the handlebars. as usual with Wal Mart, it came partially assembled, and was easy to finish. we considered a couple of "better" bikes, used, in the price range, but they were overpriced per the reviews we read, and the regatta has the features we wanted. thus far, it's all good, and it's clearly a sturdy, reliable, if none to fast, ride. here's huffy's page. www.huffybikes.com/womens-cruiser-bikes/regatta-womens-cruiser-bike/p-31087

Huffy is pretty good these days. We've had 2 cruisers that were great. Is yours a 3 speed? The Huffy link doesn't say it is but there is a shift cable in the photo.

yes, sorry, shimano nexus 3-speed. how i omitted that eludes me. doh! i was somewhat skeptical at first, i once had a huffy aerowind 12 speed which was not awe-inspiring despite their ride-with-the-wind marketing. i was going to put up pics(of the shifter and hub, actually), but i don't do the remote hosting thing.

Yeah I think 3 speeds are still one of the most practical options for city riding. Certainly great on a cruiser.
