no, not a model #, that's the steel alloy the tubes are made of. missing some parts - left crank & pedal, brake lever, front caliper, seat is trashed but appears to be a mostly-complete made-in Taiwan mid-80s 12 speed by raleigh USA. paid a neighbor $80, probably way more than it's worth. will try to fix it up. will report. in retrospect i had no good reason to buy it, maybe i'll find some kid to donate it to. first job, find and interpret the serial #. i think that's it under the crank. i've never owned a raleigh before. we'll see which i like better, this or my ancient peugeot. pics tomorrow.

Another project bike. Can't have too many of those I hated riding on Phoenix streets when I tried again a few years ago, but the bike to do it on was my 27" Univega. Same early 80s vintage but Japanese made. Double butted steel tubes & those skinny 27" tires, friction shifters on the downtube. I used to fly around town on that thing. Kids don't know that 27" is taller than a 29er or standard 700c. Tall tires at, what was it? 80 psi?
Have some fun with it. BUT, the most important thing to remember is... POST PICS!

ROAD bike. headbadge. they stamped/decalled/badged "raleigh" on it well over a dozen times. most small bits are suntour. notice the V-GTluxe, open-cage rear derailleur, same as i had on my peugeot. wheels are out of true. hope i can find parts. chain currently soaking in oil.

I have some parts that may fit it. That looks like a tall frame. Better wear a cup

thanks, i'll let you know if i can't rustle something up. i think i've got the brake parts in my parts bin. the crank will be the problem.
it may well be taller than the peugeot. the peugeot i abandoned (stupid stupid stupid) 20 yrs ago was taller, and i notice the difference. next time i'm out back taking pics i'll line them up.

While you've been busy buying defective used motorized vehicles, have you had a chance to do anything with your gently used Raleigh? The Sunrace or (Sun Race) derailleur was around a couple years ago on ebait.
What's wrong with the crank? It looks the same as the Japanese bikes of the 80s. Saw those at the time as well. Univega parts would likely fit.

i haven't looked at it. the crank on the other side is missing, and the pedal too. and the bearings need cleaning and repacking. we have a shop here in salisbury, "the pedal factory" www.thepedalfactory.org/ where volunteers rebuild bikes, it's where i got violet and donated the aerowind, i think i'll just donate this as well. they likely have the parts, skills and incentive to redeem it.

yesterday i donated the raleigh and most of my spare parts to the Pedal Factory, www.thepedalfactory.org/ which refurbishes old bikes ans sells them, cheap, and offers free training on bike repair for kids and adults. they had a very nice tall raleigh complete for $125. tempting, but i'll keep my violet.

oh, well. there are two of us here, me with violet and she with peacedove and her other bike which she doesn't ride, either. a fourth bike would be just silly. but thanks for thinking of me!
