I'm gonna do some checking. See if anything else is out there - other than Amazon. Still cheaper to convert an old bike but not by much. Plus, one doesn't have to worry about wiring & ohm's law & batteries, if one isn't too hip on the subject.

The pack is attached to the downtube. Depending on how it's built, you might be able to replace the bad cell in the pack. If not, you'd buy the $200 battery with charger, or whatever 36v option is available at the time. They're lithium batteries so they'll have a good lifespan, IF they stand up to bumpy bike rides.

BTW - this is the same Hyper ebike I first posted in another thread back in June 2019. The only difference I can see is that it's now $100 cheaper. Yeah, I'll kick myself if they knock off yet another $100 for Negro Viernes. That's generally how my luck runs.
So, bottom line, you can get a complete bike, with slightly less range, for an extra $30, vs buying kits & assembly.
wait, if you buy the kits, don't you still need to add a bike?
Yes. Maybe I could have worded that better. A complete ebike is only $30 more than buying the kits. The Hyper ebike will have aprox 25% less range than a kit bike, in theory anyway. 7.5 amp hr for the Hyper battery vs 10 amp hr for the kit battery I looked at.

i read several of the reviews on WM's link and one said that it only has an hour run time, 40 mins if it's hilly, and i thought that would be adequate for just getting around town. not so much for the desert or actual mountains i guess.
i'm actually considering getting one of these, but since you've bitten the bullet i'll wait a bit.
Wrote this bike up on the other site a while back. The most foreboding comments I found, "it's great for small riders", and "it doesn't like hills".. On the other hand, one reviewer from a large city said it was very good on his commute, but half of his commute is on rails, the other half on flat land.
I've been interested in an e-bike conversion. At the same time, I don't want to feel like I've admitted that I might need it just yet. The Hyper E-ride is a nice looking bike, for 1/4 the price of the e-bike I'd be most interested in. Interested, but definitely can't get excited about a $1600 to $2000 Trek e-bike.
I thought I posted a top 10 list of reasons a person may not be ready for a budget bike. It included fixing a flat, chain falling off, left pedal falling off, etc. A large percentage of those folks will buy this bike too. It's also at the low end of the amp hour & torque curves, hence the price tag. There will always be those that buy a Ford Escort then complain it doesn't handle like a Porsche.
for 1600, a bike had better come with 2 or 3 lovely young ladies to help me get it up...over the hills.
que the rimshot. What happens when you put a motor on an already overpriced bike? Overpriced electric bike. "overpriced" is subjective, I know. To haul a 200lb person home on a 45 lb semi-mountain ebike after a hard ride, your gonna need at least a 48 volt system & 12-15 Ahr battery. That takes a few bucks. (Forget the watts ratings. Like LED light ratings, its misdirection for most people.)

Was estimated to be delivered today but haven't even received an email confirming shipment. Will do some checking. On-Track is the absolute worst shipping service in the US & Walmart uses them frequently.
desertbikes: Yup just about everything has gone up at least 15-20% from March 2020. Some things less & others a bunch more. The old guy within says that if it's not fun, don't bother with it. Realistic? No. Just something to strive for.

tomcat65: The Witch Doctor sees the dust on the floor, and the fixtures still in boxes, and just rolls the eyes Building materials prices jumped up, and I'm way over budget. The fun just never ends

desertbikes: Hey the Catster was here & didn't even say hello or give us a bidet update. I'm thinking a foot pedal valve on the garden hose attached to the 5 gal bucket would please Ms Cat. Perhaps in more ways than one

desertbikes: That is such a 70s punk rock band name. Winning the 1977 Battle of the Bands at the Roxy, the Vicious Minnows! Then lead singer, Tuna Manifesto, pukes on stage. Ah, the good ol days

desertbikes: Indeed. Those interminable task masters. I mean cats. of course.
Apr 12, 2021 6:46:16 GMT -7
lurker: been busy with honey-do's... hunting up a particular sort of cat food (there's a shortage, y'know). laying sod on bare patches of the yard. naps, many, many naps.

desertbikes: I wonder if the SS Lurker set sail today. He said he was just going on a three hour tour. A three hour tour... Cue the thunder clap!

tomcat65: About the bike brand thing. Kent also holds the Hyper brand, Genesis, Takara, Shogun, GMC, Jeep, and BCA - assembled in South Carolina. Pacific a Dorel Industries company Cannondale, Mongoose, Schwinn, IH, GT, Caloi. Lots of corporate/China shenanigans
Apr 2, 2021 22:47:49 GMT -7
lurker: and here tonight probably the last freeze of the season. high today, 49.

Mar 30, 2021 20:36:13 GMT -7
desertbikes: Look deeper & you find around 6 holding companies own most of the outdoor & sports equipment brands you thought you knew as companies. Thompson Center, Winchester, S&W, Remington etc too And electronics & process instrumentation. Started heavy in the 80s
Mar 30, 2021 17:53:16 GMT -7
desertbikes: Yes, same factories too. So are Mongoose, Ironhorse & more. Pacific maintains the websites & trademarks/copyright for each. Kent makes Genesis & another I don't recall just now but they're not under Pacific. TC might have more current data.
Mar 30, 2021 17:37:59 GMT -7
lurker: yes, i took economics though it was never my thing. i have opinions about why this is happening but won't bore you all with them. i think i hear you saying that schwinn and huffy are under the same management?
Mar 30, 2021 11:48:11 GMT -7
desertbikes: It's a shame so much retail is nothing more than branding of US companies now long gone. Crosman, Benjamin, Winchester and all the Big Box bicycle brands, to name just a few, were once US manufacturers. Cheap imports rule the day. RIP Americana
Mar 30, 2021 8:46:22 GMT -7
desertbikes: Its a Huffy Nel Lesso with an uber low-end 7 speed instead of a single gear coaster break. Pacific Cycle makes both. Admittedly, some people will pay extra for the name branding. When does a ripoff become pure exploitation of unwary consumers?
