So, basically what it says below is: If you get tired of adult debauchery in Amsterdam, and don't get along with the new Aryans in Germany, visit our quaint little Netherlander village & get a buzz on at our bicycle museum. We've even got the bike that the famed, Wim van Est rode into a ravine in the Tour de France after sampling our fine home brew.
Ok. I may have taken a few liberties with the translation... Cool pics at the trip advisor link below.
Nationaal Fietsmuseum Velorama in Nijmegen

netherlands are flat, no mountains so nearly ideal for bicycling.

Wim van Est really was an interesting guy. He really did ride off a 200 ft cliff AND climbed out of it & wanted to continue the Tour de France. That was one tough Dutchman! memim.com/wim-van-est.html

A few years ago, I had been cleaning up my trail at the back of the farm. I decided to give it a test run, and as I was dropping into the first turn that takes the initial drop speed and sends you down the trail. From there it runs parallel to a valley with an occasional drop closer to the ditch at the bottom for more speed... I slipped and missed that first turn, went straight to the bottom, laid in the ditch for a good while. Had to get up and drag the bike up the hill, and ride it back to the house. I don't know how deep it actually is, but the mind had time to strategize a survival plan, the piled up wet leaves was a slick mess. It looked like I was going to clear the trees while I was upright, then my left foot came off of the pedal, so I laid the bike over in an attempt to slow things down. Tore my pants, ripped my shirt, dented my bike helmet. The bike just stopped and watched me go. When I finally came to a rest, the trickle of water running Up my pants leg, actually felt kind of nice, but my body became a dam and the water started building up and rushing over my leg. I got up dizzy, and slipped and slid all over the place. My phone was in a bag on the bike, but I was so muddy and wet that I didn't even get it out. Gloves are awesome. I had been raking leaves, so I had full finger work gloves on that day. Wet leaves.. I think I just remembered where my old rake might be.. I wonder what went through Mr. Wim Van Est's mind that day? If he wanted to finish the TDF, then he was obviously more driven than I am. I've finally given up and let nature take that whole trail back. Perhaps I'll never go back and lay in that ditch again? we'll see
