i nearly always resize my pics down to 200-400kb. maybe i should click on more ads to feign interest? maybe that will pay for pics. just another example of the "enshittification* of the internet", whereby our lords and masters hope to become ever richer and more powerful at our expense. * www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=enshittification

today while out riding i found an apparently abandoned puppy (with water bowl). i'm not going to say what i think of the people who left her there. the vet says she might survive the night, then we'll know more.
ETA: she didn't make it thru the night.

the LotH has yet to even sit on the icebear though i've had it out several times. maybe it's just me, i find the motor/clutch arrangement and engine noise off-putting, and have been looking at e-trikes... at walmart. they've a decent selection for $700 more or less, though no tadpoles(2 wheels front, 1 rear) in that price range. i think they're all e-commerce, none in-store. so i'm not buying until we can sit on one, maybe ride it in circles in the showroom. i'll check the fancy bicycle store here in town, though i expect they won't be cheap.

Tears me up to see this. We have strays out here all the time. Some people shoot them. I always suggest the barrel needs o be directed at the two legged creatures that do this crap. Glad you took an interest. More than most will do these days.

Not cheap at all but if you find one a shop can work on and support the $3000+ tag might be worth it. Its all still black magic to most of my old motorhead buds.

serfas rx seat like i had on the u08 came today, will swap it onto the vortex when the rain lets up. notice the wide full-length and depth trough for the personal parts, and the two connecting moldings fore and aft. this seat claims to be especially flexible and prostate-friendly.

i'm not sure that i fully understand what's going on with e-bike conversion kits. they seem to start at $1,000 and go up, up, up! and there's still some matching of motors and batteries and such to do, so the possibility of error on my part can get it's nose in the tent... wtf. i can buy a whole e-bike for that! no, TWO ebikes! so i did. one. i've ordered an entire e-bike from wal-mart's e-commerce site, and will first see if the Lady of The House (LoTH) can ride it as-is(because this whole thing started with her balancing issues), and if not will move all the e-doodads over to the trike. might involve some wire-splicing, which i can do. if the LoTH wants to keep this one whole, i'll order another. delivery anticipated friday the 4th. www.walmart.com/ip/COLORWAY-500W-Electric-bicycles-20x3-0in-Fat-Tire-Eleictric-Bike-11-2Ah-36V-E-Bike-7-SHIMANO-19-9MPH-Bicycle-for-Teenager-and-Adults-BK6M/102526969?adsRedirect=true

so it came, early (thanks, FedEx!) and she says it's too tall to flat-foot it. there's actual suspension on the front, and the seat-post is spring-loaded for "rear suspension", which means if i swap out the seat post i might can get the seat a couple of inches lower. it's currently out in the shed, assembled, charging the battery, plan to test ride it this afternoon. if it still doesn't work for her i hope to strip off the e-bike bits, swap them onto the Reverse Recumbent Trike (RRT) and donate the remains to the local bike coop, then pick up the narrative in the other thread, where we'll see if the drive wheel will actually fit in the trike frame. i think i can, i think i can...

still having trouble getting her to ride the new colorway e-bike. replaced the seatpost so the seat is now as low as it goes. took the vortex out on the trails behind the pall park, we've had rain and standing water so the skeeters are thicker than usual, think i'll wait till after the first hard freeze before i go back. some of the trails need clearing, had to drag the bike over some downed trees.

i went up o the bike co-op and got another seatpost which has allowed me to lower the seat another 2", so yes, she can flat-foot the colorway 20" e-bike now. but she's yet to ride it. i dunno, i'd trade her in on a later model if the younger ones weren't so much trouble. she says this coming week. we'll see. at that point i may or may not go shopping for either a(nother) 20" ebike to strip, or a conversion kit to put on the RRT. i've tried to ride it uphill in the yard and it's pretty near impossible. and i need to fix the seat webbing, the cheapness of some of the components is a problem. 3 of these buckles have broken. i *have* added a hose clamp to keep the seat from sliding back.

as you can see in the pics above, the seat back mesh fasteners are hanging, loose, not a matching pair remaining what with broken buckles and ripped stitching. so i've padded the frame back with pipe insulation (pool noodles) fastened on with zip ties, and it works and is comfortable.
next, the chain guide tubes anen't secureluy fastened and follow the chain, the top one getting pulled into the drive sprocket, chewed up and jamming the works. so another zip tie, and problem solved, at least temporarily.
i am now actually able to ride this thing around town, and have noted that the wider wheelbase and low seat give this machine a distinctly different feel. it is more easily brute-forced up hills because speed is no longer needed for balance. it's slower, likely because of the smaller drive wheel, visibility is more restricted due to seat height, and there are rarely narrow tracks where a bicycle can go but this simply cannot pass.

there's a thing with recumbents called "leg(or foot) suck" in which you lose shoe contact with the pedal, your foot drops to the pavement and gets dragged under the trike, possibly tearing up foot, ankle, leg.... traditional solutions include clip-on riding shoes, toe clips, and heel cups. since i don't want to buy specialized cycling shoes, i've gone with toe clips for now but i think heel cups or a combination is the ultimate solution. got these at my local fancy bike shop.
