Right! Hey thanks for looking out - i was almost ready to pull the trigger on that one but my wife and I took a look at our LBS.. and she decided that I should take the bike they had there that fit me well.. a Specialized Rockhopper Expert 1x... i know, not even in the same general price range. I think she thought i looked sexy on the bike ;-) Thanks for the input, and the journal of your experience, I learned a ton just reading through this thread!

If you're not in one of the lock down cities, let us know how you like it.

Don't be a stranger. If you're not in one of the lock down cities, let us know how you like it. We are locked down but "socially distanced outdoor activities" are encouraged by our Governor (AZ). I have had the bike out for a ride every night, and I am loving it. Truth be told I have nothing to compare it to but the one ride on the Hyper Explorer I had for a day and returned (for size and weight concerns), but it really is a nice bike. I really do look forward to my ride each nite!

Ah yes. Phoenix. One of the, sorta maybe stay home probably cities. I watched Gov Ducey on PBS last night. And while I'm glad the interviewers didn't beat him up like most national shows would have, he only answered one question directly. He was firm that hair salons & pedicures were not critical services. Inser rolling eyes emotican here... Arizona mayors & governors are having that Jaws moment - Close the beaches & ruin the economy or, leave them open and accept a few extra deaths. No. No beaches, but tons of snowbirds & big events. Oh, the bike! Sorry. It's so important to like the bike & that it's comfortable. I lost 55 lbs in the first year I started riding again. Change the saddle if need be & handlebar height is critical to keep your shoulders & neck from aching too much. Comfort is more important than cool when it comes to losing weight on a bike. You can tell the wife I said so....

Dang, that looks nice. I really like that 29er mid-fat size.
But the price is now $600. I haven't been looking for a couple of years, but I suppose that is still a good value in today's market?

Still $600 & Bikes Direct claims it will go up again with the next shipment. $600 a good deal? I just can't bring myself to say, yes. I'll leave it at maybe only because a 29er Plus size is still an oddity in the market but perfect for my needs. Especially with the 26" fat wheel swap as an option. 2 bikes in one.

I see BD is selling this bike wearing 26" 80mm fat wheels for $799.00. Really? Thant's not inflation. That's a big FU if you ask me. Merry Christmas!

hey, capitalism. free markets, supply and demand, bla bla bla. they'll sell or they won't All true. Keeps the hamsters happy. However, if I ever buy another new bike, I'll remember the shenanigans. "Shenanigans"? Who even says that. Old people...

Wanted to update this 3 year old thread because this bike is still the best out-of-box bike I've owned. It lives in dirt & sand but is well maintained and ridden almost every day. Grips & pedals have been changed but the drive train is all original. Ive adjusted the brakes & derailleur twice since new. $400 3 years ago? Wish my other investments were as wise.
